Hi, my name is Sam! I am Sam, Sam, I am! LOL!
OK, OK, enough of the jokes, huh? You want to go ahead and just get straight to the point of this thing, right? Find out exactly HOW I lost all of this weight without having to starve myself to death to do it? OK, hold on, here we go.
First, let me tell you a little bit of history about my story.
About 6 months ago, I went to my yearly doctor’s visit. For me, it wasn’t a big deal, just another routine visit to make sure I wasn’t dying or anything. You know…. another thing to mark off my womanly to-do list, right before the “smashingly” dreaded mammogram (pun intended) and the anything- but-comfortable GYN visit.
Within about 48 hours, my results popped up on the patient portal (don’t you just love that thing? Welcome to 21st century!).
Long story short, I was sitting in front of a computer when I learned I was pre-diabetic (like literally knocking on the door of diabetes), had high cholesterol (I could smell the fat swimming around in my body), and was pretty straight-forwardly called obese.
So now fast-forward ten minutes after I read, re-read, and read again the results. I may or may not have shed a few tears. Honestly? I am not sure why I was surprised. Was I living that much in the river of denial? Had I forgotten (or turned a blind eye to) my strong family history of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity? You DO know that ignorance really is bliss, right?
So now fast-forward to today, and as you can probably already guess, I made some mind-blowing, life-altering, future-securing decisions for my life. You know…….so that I can stick around this thing called life just a few years longer and be healthy enough to actually enjoy those years. My husband and kids may really thank me for that because Lord and all the world know the hubby couldn’t POSSIBLY do everything I do!
As we all know, there are lots of dieting fads out there: the ones where you eat better, lighter, and healthier; the ones where you eat once a week (ok, may twice); and the ones where you eat nothing at all except the saliva in your mouth (yummy, who wants seconds?)
I finally decided to give the Paleo diet a try! It’s a diet where you can still eat and still lose weight and get healthier. For me, it was definitely a win-win! Paleo allowed me to eat a variety of fruits (love me some watermelon), vegetables (green beans and broccoli-two of my faves), fish (recently became addicted to salmon), and lean meat (gobble-gobble). It helped me lose the weight I desperately needed to lose, prevented me from developing diabetes, lowered my blood pressure (Oh yeah, I left that little wonderful tid-bit of information out, didn’t I?), and improved my cholesterol levels. I had to make the choice to live.
I know you are asking, Sam? How did you do it? Well, I guess now it’s time to tell you the true point of my story. I had to figure a lot of things out myself along my journey, but luckily you have me (you’re welcome) to save you a lot of time…...and MONEY!
